Characters of Grimaul
Davion Riverthorne
Davion was born a slave in 82 YE (Yarian Empire). The current year is 102 YE. Davion was born into slavery in Dregdon. His father was a mason and built walls and buildings for the Orc masters. Davion had several brothers and sisters, but they were gradually split apart. One day when working wth his father, Davion saw a small hole in the wall. It led to freedom. His father pushed the boy through the hole and told him to run. Davion ran. He was found by the Mariner's guild and raised among the Mariners. He loved riding the waves. He was a large, strong boy from working with rock as a boy and he was enlisted as a Kraken, one of the MAriners Guild's elite Knights. Davion loves his life as a Kraken and feels that his brother Krakens are his family now. Davion is an exceptional swordsman and a natural leader though he is often plagued by self doubt.
Oben Ironspan
Oben Ironspan is a Dwarven Warchitect. The Warchitects are an ancient profession thought to have been killed when the Yarian Empire conquered Grimaul. Oben, like all Warchitects, is a highly specialized Engineer, capable of building great steamworks, clockworks and other marvels of Dwarven Engineering, but Warchitects also specialize in the weapons of war. Oben is old, even by Dwarven standards. He is still a formidable fighter as he was an expert in his youth at the axe, hammer and firearms. He stands by an older code of behavior and is not as crass as modern Dwarves. He misses the honor and nobility of the Dwarves of old.
Oben was a young Dwarf when the Yarian Empire came and he saw his father and the clan chiefs of Dregdon fight against Strom's father and later Strom himself. Oben has been in hiding in his Engineerium working on weapons and hoping an insurrection will come. He has been waiting for the chance for he and his weapons to fght Orcs again.

Dargrim Brassbarrel
Dargrim Brassbarrel is the oldest of the Brassbarrel brothers. They were born as free Dwarves, but spent some time in captivity. Their father taught them how to mine and they had the benefit of a relatively normal Dwarven upbringing though without the clan around them. After they were adults, they were captured by the Orcs but managed to escape and formed the Brassbarrel Mining Company. Dargrim is the leader of the two. He is prone to fits of anger. He is stubborn and he likes to fight. He loves to mine and he loves to drink Ale. He enjoys smoking his pipe and often does so when he is thinking. He dreams of being a Dwarven warrior, though he hides these dreams and maintains that he wants nothing more in life than to mine and sell what he finds to the guilds. The Brassbarrels have a reputation for being stubborn and irascible and a good deal of this reputation stems from dealings with Dargrim. Dargrim is fiercely protective of Duggan, his younger brother and he also has a high degree of pride in the Dwarven race though he has known very few Dwarve sin his life outside of his immediate family.
Duggan Brassbarrel
Duggan's younger brother and thought by most to be the smartest and less fiery of the Brassbarrel brothers. Duggan takes great delight in learning about dwarven engineering and likes to study and learn. He can read and enjoys doing so. He is more thoughtful and deliberate than Dargrim and less prone to reash action. He is a hardy and capable warrior, though he has been bested by Dargrim anytime it has come to blows between them (which has happened quite often). Duggan is also a bit more altruistic and has a soft spot for people in need of aid. His willingness to help others has often gotten him in trouble and pulled Dargrim in with him. Just as Dargrim's inability to let a perceived insult pass has gotten both Brassbarrel brothers in trouble. At times, Duggan's diplomatic nature has managed to get them out of trouble, but Dargrim's sharp tongue often defuses Duggan's diplomacy. Duggan enjoys pipeweed and ale, as most Dwarves do. He idolizes his older brother, though he tries not to let this show. Duggan feels that their father always preferred Dargrim as Dargrim and the Brassbarrel's father are cut from the same cloth. Duggan has found a surrogate father figure in Oben Ironspan.
Jaque Nightshade
Jaque (pronounced like "Jack") is a young woman who was discovered by the guild known as "The Skulks" when she was but a child. She was born in one of the transient towns of Dregdon that travel through the mountains, setting up temporary tent cities, but moving on before they are discovered by the Yarian Legion. Jaque progressed quickly in the Skulks lower ranks, quickly becoming adept at spying, stealing, breaking and entering. It soon became apparent that her skills in thievery were dwarfed by her skills in obtaining the real trade product of the Skulks...information. Jaque was so adept at gathering information that she was inducted into the Nightshade Society, an elite section of The Skulks under the command of Kaelishara, a renegade elf, known as "Kale" to his subordinates.
Every Nightshade uses the Society's name as their own last name so Jaque became Jaque Nightshade. Kale took a special interest in Jaque. He became her mentor and drove her harder than his other apprentices. His interests ran deeper than professional, though he would never act on his affections. Their relationship was strictly master to student. Jaque fears Kale and loves him as a role model. She has spurned the attentions of other suitors as well. Her fear is, if she were to become pregnant through a union, then she would be thrown out of the NIghtshades. Her fears are well founded. The Nightshade Society would see a pregnant female as a liability and a Nightshade that had a family would have to much to lose to be able to continue to perform her duties. Jaque knows nothing but her life as a Nightshade.
